America's 250th Anniversary Celebrated on a ½-Kilogram Fine Silver Proof Coin

Commemorating 250 Years of American Independence

On July 4, 1776, the thirteen American colonies formally declared they were no longer subject to Great Britain's monarchy and were united as free and independent states. On that day, 56 delegates to the Continental Congress approved the United States Declaration of Independence, a document that, 250 years later, remains the foundation of the United States of America.

To commemorate this historic milestone and celebrate the semiquincentennial, Osborne Coinage, in partnership with The Bradford Exchange Mint, struck a remarkable ½-kilogram .999 fine silver legal tender proof coin on the morning of July 4, 2026.

The Symbolism of the Obverse Design

The massive diameter (100mm or 4 inches) of the coin gave the artists an amazing amount of surface area for the design and they used it well. The obverse features the bald eagle, the national bird of the United States, with its talons gripping the number 250, signifying America's 250th anniversary. The dates 1776 and 2026, along with the coat of arms of Ascension Island, appear on either side of the 250. Thirteen stars above the eagle pay tribute to the original 13 colonies.

The inscriptions USA Semiquincentennial and Ascension Island Fifty Dollars appear at the top and bottom, respectively. The weight and purity—½ kg .999 Fine Ag—are inscribed at the bottom.

The Declaration Comes to Life on the Reverse

The reverse is encircled by the inscription Declaration of Independence • July 4, 1776. At the center is the opening text of the Declaration, accompanied by depictions of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams standing together.

Limited to Just 25 Proof Coins

Each coin was struck with coin alignment (also known as page-turn orientation) and features a reeded edge. With a mintage of only 25 pieces, this extraordinary release is an exceptionally rare and historic collectible.
