Celebrate America 250 with a Free Open House at the ANA Money Museum

Family-friendly games, prizes, and activities highlight National Coin Week celebration in Colorado Springs

The public is invited to the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum (818 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs) for a free open house on Saturday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A range of family-friendly games, activities, and prizes will be set up in celebration of National Coin Week. Organized by the nonprofit American Numismatic Association (ANA), this annual week-long celebration, April 19-25, offers fun and educational activities for all ages. During the museum open house, attendees can expect:

    • Mini Mint demonstrations where guests can receive a freshly-minted medalette.

    • Interactive Games: A museum-wide game, "Plinko" prize drop, coin toss, and more, for prizes.

    • Youth Engagement: A dedicated station for kids to design their own currency.

    • The Cash Cube: A drawing for a chance to win 30 seconds in the "Cash Cube" to grab and keep as much cash as possible.

    • Treats: An ice cream truck will be on-site to deliver sweet treats.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, National Coin Week invites the public to explore how money tells the story of American independence with the theme Striking Independence: 250 Years of American Numismatics. From the coins in your pocket to historic treasures, everyone is encouraged to discover the artistry, history, and meaning behind America's money—and perhaps see it in a whole new way.

"National Coin Week is all about sharing the joy of coin collecting," said ANA ExecutiveAmerican coinage Director Kim Kiick. "As we celebrate this special anniversary of American independence, we invite everyone to connect with the ANA community and explore resources like the Money Museum. Whether you're a longtime collector or simply curious about history, our open house is a welcoming place to begin your journey."

The ANA Money Museum is also featuring a special digital exhibit, (R)evolution in Currency, which highlights one coin, token, or note for each year of American independence from 1776-2026.

Draped Bust coin“Coins are far more than money,” said ANA Education Director Christian Strayhorn, who leads National Coin Week each year. “They are small, enduring records of who we are and what we value. From fragile notes of the American Revolution to today’s commemoratives honoring the First Amendment, our nation’s story is preserved in metal and paper. This year, we invite you to discover how the coins in your pocket are linked to the ideals of freedom that shaped our country.”

The ANA is providing complimentary online educational programs at NationalCoinWeek.org, as well as hobby-related activities and contests for the chance to win prizes during National Coin Week. Activities include free, live educational webinars led by coin experts, engaging articles from The Numismatist and the ANA Reading Room, and interactive online content.

Observed every third week of April, the ANA has organized National Coin Week to promote the enjoyment and study of coins and currency. The association also thanks Osborne Mint, official sponsor of the 2026 celebration, for supporting this nationwide event during a landmark year in American history.

The Money Museum is operated by the nonprofit American Numismatic Association, which is dedicated to encouraging the study and collection of coins and related items. The ANA helps its members and the public discover and explore the world of money through its vast array of educational programs including its museum, library, publications, conventions and webinars.
